Places of memory and visiting

The Barqa health centre is verifiable. A press report identifies Father Nicolas’s tomb at Deir Taanayel. We found no announcement formally designating a sanctuary or approved shrine.

Deir Taanayel and the reported tomb

A 2025 Nidaa Al Watan report published a photograph captioned “the tomb of the martyred father at Deir Taanayel.” The article also reports a local request to move his remains to Barqa. We found no official source confirming that the request was accepted or that a transfer took place.

We therefore describe Taanayel as the burial site identified in a press report, not as an approved Church shrine. No public visiting hours or access arrangements were found.

Is there an official sanctuary?

We found no Jesuit or Order of Malta notice designating an official sanctuary for Father Nicolas. The presence of his photographs in Barqa homes and local devotion described by reporters document community memory; they do not establish ecclesiastical status or pilgrimage arrangements.

A short reflection

God of peace, remember the people of Barqa and all who serve underserved communities. Give us courage to listen and work together, and protect victims of violence and their families. Amen.
